Personal story: Hannah lost her mother at a tender age. After the demise of her mother, her illiterate maternal grandmother, who resides on Makoko’ s dark and murky water, took her in. Hannah’s grandmother is a petty trader and could not afford to support her and at the same time send her to school.
In 2009, the founder of Change-A-Life, Ms. Funmi Iyanda, discovered Hannah, who was already past school enrolment age. Ms. Iyanda could easily tell that there were pains in Hannah’s eyes. On moving closer to her, all Hannah said to Ms. Funmi Iyanda in the Yoruba dialect was ‘I want to go to school’.
The same year, Hannah, who had never been to school, was awarded an educational scholarship and enrolled in school by Change-A-Life. Since then Hannah has been performing well in her studies.

Personal Story: Mbuotidem is the last child of four children. On the 23rd of April 2008, when she was barely five years old, Mbuotidem lost her father to the cold hands of death.
On the 23rdApril 2009, exactly a year after the demise of her father, armed robbers broke into her mother’s shop and carted away all her goods, money and other valuables. Mbuotidem’s mother lost all her source of livelihood to armed robbers that day.
After this, it seemed as though nothing would go well again, however thanks to Change-A-Life educational scheme Mbuotidem’s education continues.

Personal story: Qudus is the son of the late Ibrahim Olojede who was shot on the 1st of October 2009 (by a happy trigger policeman) while he was hanging out in front of his mechanic shop with his friends.
It was a tragedy for Qudus’ family especially his mother who was a housewife and unskilled. Presently, Qudus’ mother works as a stylist at a hair salon and her income from this job is not sufficient to sustain her family or cover Qudus’ school fees.

Personal story: Samuel’s father was one of three men who were hit by stray bullets from the gun of a policeman on the 1st of October 2009. The deceased and his friends were hanging out in front of their mechanic workshop when they were hit. Samuel’s father was in coma at the intensive care unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital for four days before he died. Samuel’s mother who was a petty trader sold all her goods in order to pay for her late husband’s hospital bills. This left her with no source of livelihood after the demise of Samuel’s father. Samuel’s mother had no means to support her only child through school.
In addition to the educational scholarship awarded to Samuel and to ensure that Samuel’s family does not disintegrate, Samuel’s mother was awarded a scholarship by Change-A-Life under its Women In Need business intervention scheme. She is currently training to be a hairstylist.
